The Nightmare Before Christmas: Londoners Horrified by a Festive Wall Mural (13 photos)
In anticipation of Christmas, a park in Kingston, England, was decorated with a mural. A huge image of a cheerful crowd appeared above the Côte Brasserie restaurant and other establishments. However, upon closer inspection, it becomes terrifying: the AI-generated people and animals are mutilated.
Baffled Londoners are mocking the mural on social media.
"What the hell is going on with AI? Who approved this massacre?" a Kingston resident fumed.
They agreed: "So they didn't even look at the image before printing it."
How many mistakes can you find in this AI creation?
Here we have dogs with bird heads racing across a partially frozen pond, and a group of disfigured people on a raft. They use a dog's leg on a stick as an oar. It's hard to miss the snowman with human eyes and teeth wading through the water.
This is astonishing, given the capabilities of AI-powered image creation.
Studies have shown that people recognize generated faces only a third of the time.

One user humorously noted, "You know what Christmas is? A snowman with an eye on his cheek."
Another responded, "I mean, what the hell is that? What was the prompt?" Acid trip for the holidays?"
An angry commenter wrote: "It's hard to believe that if you use artificial intelligence, you don't spend at least some of the time you supposedly saved on proofreading your work."
"It's incredible that someone would do this without any anxiety or shame."
"Oh my god, hire a graphic designer. I'm going to have this Boschian nightmare every night," another complained.
However, there were also connoisseurs of this kind of art: "I am equally delighted and terrified"; "Where in Kingston is this? I'll come just for this"; "Simply phenomenal. I'd love to see the whole thing. I'm sure I've had nightmares about it."
This isn't the first time artificial intelligence has ruined the holidays. This month, Coca-Cola came under fire for its entirely generated Christmas ad. This is the second year the brand has resorted to this ploy and faced harsh consumer backlash. ![]()
