Toyota Corolla gets a new look, but only for China for now (25 photos) (Photo)
The restyled Toyota Corolla sedan, produced by the Toyota and FAW joint venture for the local market, officially premiered at the Guangzhou Motor Show in China. The model has a modern look, slightly increased in size, and, according to preliminary reports, will receive an expanded engine range.
The sedan's dimensions now measure 4710 x 1780 x 1435 mm, with a longer wheelbase of 2750 mm. The wheelbase has increased by 50 mm, and the overall length has grown by 75 mm. This brings the new model closer in size to another Chinese sedan, the Toyota Allion. The trunk volume is 470 liters, and wheels are up to 17 inches.
The restyled Corolla looks similar to a number of other modern models from the company, featuring, for example, C-shaped daytime running lights connected by an LED strip and a different bumper with vertical inserts at the edges (which conceal the main headlight units). The rear end has undergone minimal changes, and the sedan's interior remains unchanged.
The engine lineup will retain the hybrid powertrain, based on a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated engine producing 98 hp, a 95 hp electric motor, and an e-CVT. At the same time, according to certification data, Toyota and FAW will no longer equip the Corolla with compact internal combustion engines, replacing them with larger ones. The model is expected to receive a 2-liter engine producing 171 horsepower—a very similar engine to the Allion.
The global Toyota Corolla is expected to undergo a more radical transformation. A prototype was unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show in late October, and judging by it, the sedan will receive a completely new look in 2026, featuring a styling cues never before seen on this model.
