Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg, along with like-minded people from the organization Extinction Rebellion, poured massive amounts of supposedly safe paint into Venice's Grand Canal and several other bodies of water. This turned the water an acidic green.
An organization representative told French Radio Internationale that the goal of the action was to draw attention to the results of the UN climate conference in Brazil.
According to the activist, Italy was among the countries blocking "the most ambitious proposals." Her supporters then poured paint into various bodies of water in Venice, Bologna, Genoa, and Taranto.
"The Extinction Rebellion movement has dyed the waters of ten Italian cities green, condemning the Italian government's ecocidal policies," the organization said in a statement.
