Strange Rays Over the Road Frighten Kazakhs (3 photos)

Road workers installed laser cannons on arches near the village of Oshagandy. In the dark, they shoot beams into the distance to inform drivers.





The system operates using active laser warning, creating light stripes/barriers directly in the driver's field of view. Unlike signs and conventional lighting, laser lines are impossible to miss: they cut through the dark space of the road and immediately stand out.

The equipment has been operating in test mode for several days. The laser beams are visible from a distance of 10 kilometers. The device uses low-intensity, eye-safe emitters to create light corridors or signals above the road.



Drivers who see laser beams should take them as a signal to be more attentive. And if a laser barrier appears in their field of view, they should understand that they are in a risk zone, such as a dangerous turn or an accident-prone area.

The meaning of laser beams is not specified in traffic regulations, but they should be treated as warnings on road signs or markings:

- reduce speed,

- keep your distance,

- be prepared for unexpected maneuvers by other vehicles.

The meaning of the colors can be compared to the pilot projects in China and the system's logic:

- Red – immediate warning, high-risk zone, reduce speed.

- Yellow/orange — increased alert, potential hazard ahead: fog, slippery conditions, exit ramp, etc.

- Green — direction of travel or safe zone. Often used as a corridor light to maintain driver attention.



The system is designed to help drivers react promptly to dangerous situations and reduce the risk of accidents caused by fatigue, loss of concentration, and limited visibility. Pilot projects installing lasers on highways, implemented in other countries, have shown a 40-50% reduction in accidents in equipped areas.

However, the project was launched without any public notification, and the strange beams in the sky above the road have so far only frightened people.
