A unique six-wheeled retrofuturistic custom car will be put up for auction (9 photos)

On September 20th, Mecum Auctions will auction off a one-of-a-kind vehicle called the Ice Princess XF58. This mid-century retrofuturistic concept car was built in the late 1980s by renowned customizer Richard Fletcher. Despite its highly unusual appearance, the six-wheeled vehicle is capable of self-propelled operation. The expected price for the custom car has not yet been determined.





The Ice Princess's design actively exploits aerospace motifs typical of 1950s American design. The car is distinguished, for example, by a distinctive element at the front reminiscent of a rocket nozzle, huge "keels" at the rear with characteristic lights on pylons, and exhaust pipes located on the sides.

The interior is also designed in the style of aircraft cockpits: the driver and passenger have individual areas with transparent fairings, and folding "hoods" replace the roof. The Ice Princess has no doors in the traditional sense. Analog instruments are housed in separate wells and are located not only behind the steering wheel but also on the center console.

Components from a 1950 Studebacker Champion and a 1960 Cadillac Eldorado were used in the construction of this custom car. The Ice Princess is powered by a Cadillac 8.2-liter V8 coupled with an automatic transmission. The auctioneers are not disclosing the engine's output: according to various sources, it ranges from 340 to 400 horsepower.
