Custom 1932 Willys with parts from military aircraft will be put up for auction (18 photos)

At the Barrett-Jackson auction, an original custom with its own name Low Standard will be put up for sale. This is a project of the American studio Eddie's Rod & Custom from Hiawatha, Iowa, based on one of the Willys models of the 1932 model. The hot rod is stylized as an airport official car - it comes with a luggage trailer made in the form of a fuel canister. In addition, parts from real military aircraft are used in the car's interior.





Customizers have developed an original frame design for the custom. It houses a shortened donor body, moved forward along with the engine compartment to make the hot rod look like a pickup truck. The cabin roof was lowered by 50 millimeters. Behind it there is a coupling device to which the trailer luggage rack is attached. The source for it was a real fuel tank from the beginning of the last century.

The Low Standard suspension features Ford axles and springs, vintage 18-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels, and modern Wilwood brakes.

The hot rod is driven by an engine that is unusual for this kind of homemade product. This is a 2.2-liter Nissan diesel of the SD22 series, which the Japanese company itself used in the 1970s and early 1980s. The current output of the engine is not specified; in the factory version it developed up to 80 hp.

The customizers installed seats from the American B-25 military aircraft into the cockpit. Instead of a five-speed manual gearbox lever, the throttle lever of a 1930s Bristol Blenheim bomber is used. Finally, a steering wheel from a civilian Convair 440 is mounted on the steering column, while the only instruments available are a speed indicator. It works according to the aviation principle - due to the so-called pitot tube, which estimates the speed by the pressure of the oncoming air.
