70-year-old Willys with a ground clearance of 660 mm was put up for auction (5 photos)
A strange SUV built on the basis of a 1955 Willys pickup truck will be put up for auction at Mecum in the coming days. The car retained, perhaps, only the body from the donor: the car was turned into a spectacular monster truck with gigantic ground clearance.
The Willys body was raised above the road by 660 millimeters due to a lift kit with adjustable struts and many chrome elements. Instead of standard axles, components from a 2015 Ford F-350 were used. The pickup rests on the road with 28-inch Liberty chrome wheels wrapped in 44-inch Super Swamper tires.
The factory powertrain is replaced by a more modern 6.0-liter V8 borrowed from the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 of the early 2000s. The engine output is not specified, but it is known that the engine received new camshafts, valve springs and manifolds, as well as an alternative control unit. The engine is running with an automatic transmission.
The Willys body was equipped with a power front bumper with a diode insert. In addition, modern optics are used.
The SUV was built in 2020 for the SEMA tuning show. The auction house does not specify how much it plans to earn for the exotic monster truck. There are no images of the interior, although it can be assumed that it has been modified just as comprehensively.
