An Old Volkswagen Van with an 8.3-Liter V8 Engine and Porsche Seats Is Up for Sale (28 pics)

A Volkswagen Rocketbox minibus has been put up for sale in the USA. This is the name given to the 1966 Volkswagen T1 after a major overhaul. The minibus's powertrain was completely replaced, with an 8.3-liter V8 from Cadillac installed, the chassis was upgraded, and the interior was modernized. They are asking $80,000 for the custom.





The VW T1 was equipped with small air-cooled boxer engines as standard, but the new unit is radically different from the factory one. To install the V8 in the same place as the original engine, it was necessary to abandon the rear seats, widen the body by 150 millimeters and additionally strengthen it at the rear. In addition, the rear of the bus was equipped with clearly visible air intakes, in which the radiators were placed. The exhaust pipes imitate the details of the rear lighting and are located almost on the roof.

The seller does not specify the engine output, but it is known that it works with a three-speed "automatic" Turbo-Hydramatic 425. In accordance with the new unit, the suspension was rebuilt and disc brakes were installed instead of drums, and the standard wheels were replaced with more modern 17-inch front and 18-inch rear ones.

The interior as a whole remained factory, but was decorated with several modern details. Among them, for example, an audio system, additional analog instruments and toggle switches, as well as seats from a Porsche 914, newly trimmed with Alcantara.
