The significant imbalance in prices for the same Volkswagen electric vehicles that arose between China and Germany prompted one of the brand’s German dealers to bring home a batch of Volkswagen ID.6 produced by the Chinese joint venture FAW-Volkswagen at the end of 2023.

The VW ID.6, which is what caused the noise, is structurally an extended version of the ID.4 with three rows of seats. The model is sold only in China at a price of 33.7 thousand euros, which made the electric car a rather attractive offer for Germans, who only have access to the less capacious ID.4, priced at 40 thousand euros.

According to the Automobilwoche publication, the German Transport Authority was ready to allow the operation of the Chinese ID.6 after minor modifications to the equipment and software updates. But then the Volkswagen concern itself intervened, vetoing the sale of electric vehicles. The court upheld the automaker's decision, ruling that the 22 ID.6s already imported should be confiscated.

Moreover, Volkswagen's legal department now demands the destruction of the ill-fated cars, arguing that they have different equipment from the European ones, in particular, they are not equipped with an automatic emergency call system. But the dealer insists that he is right, because, in his opinion, since he imported the ID.6 legally and received the approval of the German authorities, there should be no problems.
