Volkswagen Beetle crossed with Porsche Boxster and put up for sale (16 photos)
In 2013, the Austrian workshop CarMaxx Classics experimented with the Volkswagen 1303, aka Super Beetle (a modernized Beetle from the 1970s), marrying it with one of its great relatives, namely the first-generation Porsche Boxster S, as the closest in size.
The common rear-engine layout helped to combine cars from different eras. From a Porsche sports car they took the chassis, engine, transmission, brakes, steering, partly parts of the dashboard with a tidy system, gas tank, trunk, etc. That is, in fact, the restomod is still the same “Boxster”, on which they pulled the guise of a “Beetle”.
The output of the modernized 3.2-liter flat six has increased from stock 247 to 270 hp. s., which, taking into account the light body of the classic Beatle, ensured acceleration to hundreds in just 5 seconds, thereby exceeding the dynamics of the standard Boxster S.
Of course, a trained eye will immediately see signs of mutation: the car’s lowered position, swollen fenders, Porsche “casting” on low-profile tires with red brake calipers.
By the way, if you're interested, according to the documents, the super-Beetle still remains a 2000 Porsche Boxster S. And its price is by no means popular: for a used car after transformation at the Schroeder-Classics site, 195,000 euros were requested.
By the way, one can find historical subtext in the conversion. After all, the first Porsche 356 from 1948 borrowed the base from the Volkswagen Beetle along with the chassis and engine, and was visually similar to the Beetle, especially in the coupe body.
