One of the first Porsches was equipped with a large engine and put up for sale (13 photos)
An unusual Porsche 356A has appeared on sale. It rolled off the assembly line in 1957, but in the 2000s it underwent many modifications, including replacing the standard engine with a custom 2.5-liter from Polo Motors. At the Bring a Trailer auction, the rare coupe with a modified body, interior, and suspension is currently being offered for $127,000, and there is still a day left in the auction.
The power unit that the coupe is equipped with was developed by Polo Motors specifically for customizers who specialize in vintage Porsches. It is based on the six-cylinder flat-six block from the 911, but the number of cylinders is reduced to four, and the volume is increased to 2.5 liters (engines with a volume of 1.1 to 2 liters were installed from the factory). The engine output is not specified, but it is known that on this 356A it is supplemented with two Weber carburetors, a Bosch ignition system and oil coolers. The unit works with a five-speed "mechanics" from a Porsche 901, for the placement of which the transmission tunnel had to be redesigned.
The suspension of the restomod uses alternative levers (including parts from more modern Porsche models) and Koni shock absorbers. The sports car is shod with 15-inch Boyd Coddington wheels. In addition, the rarity is equipped with a power steering and disc brakes.
The 356A body features a modified engine compartment lid, different bumpers and extended rear wings. The interior features 911 seats, a Nardi steering wheel, a new dashboard and a semi-cage. Most of the interior surfaces are covered in leather. The custom is said to have won a number of awards at thematic exhibitions and competitions.
