In Australia, a four-meter shark bit a surfer's board (4 photos + 2 videos)
A surfer narrowly escaped death when a shark attacked his board off the coast of New South Wales. In the early hours of August 8, surfers at Cabarita Beach spotted Brad Ross struggling in the water. Locals feared a repeat of the tragedy after a teenager was attacked at the same spot six weeks ago. 
Luckily, Ross survived, but his board did not. The shark took a large bite out of his board, snapping it in half. Witnesses reported seeing a 13-foot-long great white shark just off the beach.
Surf Lifesaving has launched drones to find the threat. 
Kelly Slater, a world champion surfer, commented on the incident: "Mr. Ross is lucky to be alive."
"A perfect example of why I am afraid to swim in the open ocean. Surfboards have saved many thanks to this tiny barrier," Slater wrote.
Locals chime in.
"I captured a stunning sunrise this morning, but there was another shark attack on the beach. I was swimming there too," one user shared.
"Another shark attack on my local beach this morning," said another.
"Poor shark thought it was getting a treat but got shards of fibreglass instead," joked a third.
A fourth added: "This is why I don't surf. Luckily no one was hurt. I went for a swim at South Hastings early this morning. Sharks don't go there."
The beach has been closed following reports of an attack.
Tweed Shire Council said: "We have been advised by Surf Life Saving NSW that Cabarita Beach at Norris Point is temporarily closed due to a shark attack this morning. No one was hurt in the incident. We will update you as new information becomes available."
