Shark knocks surfer off board
In the state of Florida, USA, a spinner shark jumped out of the water and collided with a surfer.
Darren Kay was surfing off the coast of New Smyrna Beach, which is known for frequent shark attacks. According to Darren, he had seen predators near the shore before and had even witnessed attacks, so he was especially careful. He was carefully watching what was happening underwater, but the shark "attacked" him from the air. It hit Kay on the head and knocked him off the board. This moment was captured on video.
It turned out that Darren had encountered a spinner shark. This species is known for its unusual way of hunting: they move rapidly vertically, spinning around their axis, pierce a school of fish, swallowing them, and at the end of the hunt, jump out of the water. According to the surfer, he was lucky that the shark's mouth was closed and it could not injure him.
Kay compared the shark encounter to being hit by a car. He knew what he was talking аbout: he had once been hit by a car, leaving a scar on his elbow. As the shark disappeared, he says, he climbed back on his board and swam to shore: “My heart rate went up to 195 beats per minute in a second, and I was paddling as fast as I could.”
