Tesla humanoid robot taught to iron, clean and cook
Tesla has shown off new capabilities for its Optimus robot. The company claims that the robot has been taught to clean, cook, iron clothes, and do other household chores. The robot is trained using videos of people.
Tesla has shown off new capabilities for its humanoid robot Optimus in a video posted to X (Twitter) by the company's investor Mario Naufal. The demonstration shows the robot handling a wide range of household tasks, hinting at its potential to automate household chores.
In the video, Optimus confidently performs a variety of everyday tasks: from cleaning rooms and washing dishes to ironing, cooking, and sorting garbage. These shots give an idea of what functions Tesla Optimus will be able to take on in the future.
A key aspect of the progress demonstrated in the video is the robot's innovative training method. Optimus learned all the actions shown thanks to a single neural network that studied movements and processes based on videos filmed with the participation of people. This approach made it possible to train the robot to perform complex tasks much faster, bypassing traditional programming methods. Optimus, also known as Tesla Bot, is a general-purpose humanoid robot being developed by Tesla. The project was announced at the Artificial Intelligence Day event on August 19, 2021, and the first prototype was presented in 2022. CEO Elon Musk has previously stated that Optimus' potential could eventually surpass even Tesla's car business. The company is expected to begin using robots in the production of Tesla electric vehicles as early as this year.
