The owner deliberately flooded his restaurant (2 photos + 1 video)
A restaurant owner in Kentucky, USA, has found an unconventional solution to protect his establishment from the devastating flooding of the Ohio River. While waiting for the elements to come, the man flooded the building himself.
The published video shows the restaurant team actively working to save the establishment.
Using sinks, faucets and a well pump, workers filled the premises with 1.8 meters of clean fresh water. The main goal is to create a barrier that will not allow flood water saturated with silt and pollutants to penetrate inside.
The Rescue Operation
"We had all the kitchen equipment and electrical panels shut down early," Masterson explained during the livestream, showing all the stages of the massive rescue operation.
He believes that if this method is successful, the restaurant will be able to avoid the extremely expensive and time-consuming cleanup work that is usually required after dirty water floods.
"There is a risk that floodwaters will still enter the restaurant through windows, doors, or vents. This will happen if the water level outside exceeds 6 feet," Masterson noted, pointing out the potential limitations of his disaster plan.
It is not yet known whether business insurance covers such unusual cases.
