Monkeys left part of Sri Lanka without electricity (2 photos + 1 video)
The curious primates, according to authorities, "touched a transformer at the Panadura power station." As a result, many areas of the island were left without power. However, locals believe that the authorities simply found a convenient excuse to shift the blame to the most vulnerable and the weak. Many know how dilapidated the entire power system is in Sri Lanka.
Yesterday, Sunday, February 9, most of Sri Lanka was left without power. Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody blamed the monkey for everything: "It came into contact with a transformer, which led to an imbalance in the system," he told the media.
Daily Mirror, citing sources in the Ministry of Energy, writes that the monkey was not alone. The animals fought, fell onto the power line, which caused a power outage across the island.

The incident occurred at about 11 a.m. on Sunday south of the capital Colombo - in that area there was no power for about 3 hours, after which the power supply was gradually restored, but not everywhere. The island nation is home to about 20 million people.
Locals believe that the monkeys are just an excuse for the authorities, and the entire energy system of the island is on its last legs, and more large-scale blackouts are possible in the future.
