An era has passed: a popular Japanese bar has banned hitting visitors
Previously, customers could get a slap from a waitress for 500 yen. And for an extra hundred, they could get a punch in the face from their favorite employee.
Japanese restaurant chain Yotteba has stopped offering a “slap” service to drunk customers after one of them complained of getting hurt.
The izakaya-style establishments (pubs where customers drink after work) offer customers chicken wings, cheap beer, and the binta service — a sharp punch to the cheek. For just 500 yen, customers could ask a waitress to punch them in the face. For another 100 yen, they could choose a female employee to deliver the punch. According to the chain, this was done to sober people up before they went home.
The unusual service was quite popular. In videos on social media, viewers applaud customers who endured the slap. Now, because of one snitch, no one will get a good slap on the wrist from the waitress.
