Skoda presented the most affordable electric crossover Elroq (30 photos)

5 October 2024

Škoda has unveiled a new crossover - Elroq, which will become the most affordable battery model of the Czech brand for some time. The new model is made in the most up-to-date version of the corporate design and received four powertrain options, while both in size and price it is comparable to the gasoline Karoq. Orders are already open, deliveries will start in early 2025.

Skoda's fresh styling has received its own name Modern Solid, and designers call the principle of the front end design Tech Deck Face. This is multi-level lighting, a minimalist radiator grille and large air intakes. In general, the Elroq is not similar to any modern Škoda model. Even the silhouette of the electric car is more elongated and dynamic.

The latter is achieved, among other things, due to the extended wheelbase compared to gasoline models. The Elroq has 2765 mm between the axles, and this is about 150 mm more than the Karoq with comparable external dimensions of 4488 × 1884 × 1625 mm. The ground clearance is 186 mm, the volume of the trunk, traditionally receiving wide transformation options, is from 470 to 1580 liters. Already at the start of sales, the Sportline package will be available with a slightly more aggressive body decor and a clamped suspension (minus 10 mm of clearance), as well as the First Edition version with a luminous insert between the headlights.

The Elroq's interior resembles fuel-powered Škodas in terms of its dashboard architecture, but it features an original design for the central tunnel with a microscopic transmission selector, a more effective eco-friendly finish with bright color accents, and its own set of physical buttons, such as for climate control. The diagonal of the media system display is 13 inches, but the size of the compact dashboard is not named.

The Škoda Elroq is based on the same MEB platform with fully independent suspension as the rest of the Volkswagen Group's electric cars. Four power units are available, differing in output power and range, but only one version of the Elroq received all-wheel drive.

The most affordable modification will be the one with a 170-horsepower (310 Nm) engine and a 55-kilowatt battery, for which 9 seconds of acceleration to 100 km and a range of 375 km are declared. The next most expensive variation is equipped with a 204 hp engine and the same 310 Nm in combination with a 63-kilowatt battery. The dynamics will improve to 8.5 seconds, the power reserve will increase to 400 km.

At the top of the range are two options with an 82 kW⋅h battery. The single-engine Elroq (286 hp, 545 Nm) will reach 100 in 6.6 seconds and travel 560 km without recharging, the 299-horsepower all-wheel drive will get the same power reserve, but its dynamic characteristics have not yet been made public. The maximum speed of the electric car is from 160 to 180 km/ h, depending on the engine.

Škoda specifically notes that in a number of European markets, the Elroq will become a battery alternative to the Karoq not only in size, but also in starting price. It is promised that in some countries the price of the new electric car will start at 33 thousand euros. In 2025, Skoda plans to release an even more affordable electric car, already announced in the form of the Epiq concept. It should take the form of a small SUV with a starting price of about 25 thousand euros.
