Italian and French comedies have always been popular with Soviet audiences.
1. The film "Bluff" began with a script by two screenwriters - Dino Mauiri and Massimo de Rita. And when the script about a successful swindler fell into the hands of director Sergio Corbucci, he, after reading it, was absolutely delighted and declared that he would like to make a film based on it.

By the way, the famous director Quentin Tarantino considered Sergio Corbucci the second best director after Sergio Leone.
2. Producer Mario Cecchi Gori wanted the famous Italian actor Franco Nero to play the role of Felix. But the director was against Nero’s candidacy, since he believed that the actor was not at all suitable for the role of a professional swindler.
Moreover, Cecchi Gori wanted the film to be serious, while the director wanted to make a comedy. And when Sergio suggested taking Adriano Celentano for this role, Mario Cecchi Gori agreed with him, just as he agreed that this plot could make an excellent comedy.
3. When it came to finding an actress to play the role of Felix’s lover named Charlotte, Sergio Corbucci remembered the very scandalous but successful film “The Story of O,” where the main role was played by the French actress Corinne Clery. After watching this film, Corbucci no longer wanted to see anyone in the role of Charlotte except Corinne Clery.
And when Clery found out that Adriano Celentano himself would be her partner in the film, she agreed to the role of Charlotte without hesitation.
4. Famous American actor Anthony Quinn was invited to play the role of Philip. According to the director, Quinn's participation in the film not only made the film better, but also gave it an international flavor.
