I am probably the first director who would like to never make his own film - director of the film 20 days in Mariupol Chernov
The director of the film “20 days in Mariupol” Mstislav Chernov made a powerful and poignant speech from the Oscar 2024 stage, in which he thanked his colleagues and recalled the war in Ukraine.
This is reported by Censor.NET.
"This is the first Oscar in Ukrainian history. It is a great honor for me. But I am probably the first director who would like to never make his film. I would like to exchange the award for Russia never attacking Ukraine, not occupied our cities and did not kill Ukrainians. I would trade an Oscar for the release of all the prisoners held by Russia.
But I can't change the past. However, we can make sure that history is corrected, so that the truth wins, and the people from Mariupol and those who gave their lives for Ukraine are never forgotten.
Cinema shapes stories, and stories shape memories. Thank you everyone. Glory to Ukraine,” Chernov said during the ceremony.
The 96th Academy Awards took place tonight in Los Angeles. The film “20 days in Mariupol” won the “Best Feature Documentary Film” category.
