Mexican presidential candidate vowed on blood to lower the retirement age (2 photos + 1 video)
When “I swear on my mother” no longer works.
Mexican presidential candidate Xochitl Galvez played her trump cards at a pre-election rally: she promised voters to lower the retirement age in the country from 65 to 60, and so that her promise would have at least some weight, she sealed it with her own blood. She cut her index finger on her left hand and, in the presence of a notary, first signed the document and then left a bloody fingerprint on it.
“I, Xochitl Galvez, when I take office as President of the United Mexican States, will not abolish the social programs that are the right of Mexicans. I will add that the retirement age will be 60 years old. They [the promises] are sealed with my blood - this is the most valuable thing I have "Yes. Social programs will not be curtailed," the candidate said to applause from the crowd.
Xochil Galvarez is a contender from the center-right Strength and Heart for Mexico alliance. The “bloody” election rally took place at the Sergio Leon Chavez stadium in the city of Irapuato (Guanajuato state)
Presidential elections in Mexico will be held on June 2, 2024. Xochil Galvarez's main opponent is the candidate from the center-left National Renaissance Movement, Claudia Sheinbaum, who headed the administration of Mexico City (the capital of Mexico) from 2018 to 2023. It’s interesting how, after Galvarez, she can surprise voters.
It is known that the main fight will take place between these candidates. Incumbent President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador will not be able to run again, as this is not provided for in the country's constitution.
