South Korea is the only country where everyone is against remote work (6 photos)

After the pandemic, there was a lot of vacant office space left on the real estate market around the world. On average, companies' needs have decreased by 30%. Everywhere except South Korea, the demand for office space is almost 100%.

In total, 98% of class A premises in the center and office buildings are occupied, this is a world record even in comparison with other business centers. In the United States, for the first time in 30 years, there is such an overabundance of vacant business premises.

Most of the office space is given to civil servants

And the pandemic simply saved ancient Japan. There, people began to move out of Tokyo and, as I already wrote, to rent historic houses in the village for restoration for pennies.

People began to spread more evenly across cities and suburbs everywhere... except Seoul.

Nobody likes remote work in Korea

But in Korea, open spaces are still popular in order to keep an eye on everyone and disturb each other

When all the lockdowns were lifted, the Koreans themselves rushed to return to work in the office. All over the world, the cost of renting office space has fallen, and in South Korea it even increased by 15%.

Everyone is wondering what is the reason for this phenomenon?

CBRE's head of real estate research, Claire Choi, puts this down to cultural issues:

If a Korean is given the hybrid choice of working from home or from the office, he perceives this as an unspoken expectation from the employer that he return to work at his place.

Who else can a boss go drink soju with after work if everyone lives the way they like? Not in order!

Korea does not have a strong cultural tradition of remote work. If a company can prohibit remote work, it will prohibit or offer a conditional hybrid way of working.

This is also due to the hierarchy in companies, where it is customary to control all employee actions. But doing this remotely is unusual and difficult.

I also heard a saying that in South Korea, to find your first job, you need to wear out one pair of shoes.

And Koreans themselves rarely strive to work remotely. They believe that personal connections and the ability to please their boss with a pleasant attitude will help them advance at work.

If we compare a person who simply works well and a person who works and is also good friends with his boss, the second has much better life prospects.

Koreans are one of the least sleeping nations due to overwork and the whims of their bosses

And competition in the workplace in South Korea is enormous, so no one wants to risk their place and career.
