The coffee company is considered "pro-Israel" and is boycotted in Turkey. On TV, the appearance of a TV presenter in a frame with a despised drink was considered completely inappropriate.
Throughout Turkey, there is a boycott campaign against Israeli products and companies that support this country in the conflict with the Gaza Strip. Activists regularly destroy McDonald's and Starbucks coffee shops, and in some cases even attack these establishments with weapons. True, these points have not yet been closed.
And recently, a news anchor inadvertently appeared on air with a Starbucks cup, which cost her her job.
"In the news broadcast of the TGRT Haber TV channel dated December 24, 2023, presenter Meltem Günay, presenting the news, held a cup belonging to Starbucks in front of her. In accordance with the principles of our organization, it is strictly prohibited to act as a presenter on TGRT Haber in such a way as to covertly advertise any or the company. The presenter and director who violated this principle were fired," the TV channel reported on the social network X.
Thus, the Turkish media continue to show which side they are on in the conflict with Israel.
