Every two years, the Wildlife Foundation and the Zoological Society London is preparing a report on the number of wild animals in the world. In 2022 reported that between 1970 and 2018, the population of wild animals on The earth has shrunk by 69%.
To assess population changes, scientists from different countries conducted analysis of the abundance of 5230 species of animals. The most significant number population decline (94%) was recorded in Latin America and Caribbean. These are the places where the Amazon rainforests are located.
In second place in the reduction of the population of wild animals is Africa - 66%. This is followed by the Asia-Pacific region - 55%, North America - 20%, Europe and Central Asia - 18%, clarifies "Kommersant".
WWF representative Tanya Steely explained the reasons for the decline in the population.
"The pace of deforestation is accelerating, depriving this unique ecosystem of not only trees, but also wild animals that depend on them, and depriving the Amazon of being one of our most important allies in climate change," she said.
Other causes were pollution, agriculture, hunting and deforestation.
