The sanitation worker had a normal working day. And suddenly he heard a loud scream - just at the moment when he threw a garbage bag into the truck!
He immediately called for help.
As soon as the people opened the bag, they saw another closed bag in it. It contained a 4-week-old puppy, a girl...
“Whoever left her there clearly wanted her dead. A little more and she would have suffocated, unable to breathe!” said Jessie Pena, vice president of the Redland Rock Pit Abandoned Dogs Project in Miami. It was in this organization that a call came from an employee.
“On the other hand, I don’t think she stayed there for a long time, because the baby didn’t cry or make noise, as is usually the case,” the woman adds.
The poor girl, fortunately, survived this incident, but her sorrows did not end there. The puppy had a tumor on his head...
“We took her to the vet, and she confirmed that the girl had a fracture,” Pena recalls. “She couldn’t eat, she couldn’t walk, she couldn’t do anything when we first brought her home...”
The puppy was given a beautiful and symbolic name - Mary. The nickname appeared for a reason - after all, she was found shortly before the bright holiday of Christmas.
Now Pena speaks with great tenderness about how the puppy is getting better.
“The tumor has shrunk by about 80 percent. Mary eats herself now. She’s trying to get out of bed, but she can’t yet - she doesn’t have the necessary strength yet...” said Pena.
But Mary began to trust people more, and this is a big step for abandoned animals!
“The vet said she was very sweet and just wanted to be cuddled,” the woman continued. “She recognizes the people who care about her. She rolls around on her back and tries to play, like all puppies do.”
Now Mary is in a foster family, and when she is fully recovered, they will definitely find a permanent home for her!
The worker did not remain indifferent, and this saved little Mary’s life! For this, many, including us, are immensely grateful to him.
