A vinaigrette of historical footage from past years. Issue 157 (41 photos)

An American farmer demonstrates his vehicle, 1930s.

An analogue of a hamster, only with a goat in a large wheel that produces energy. This unusual type of transport could accelerate to 15 km/h. The second goat from above apparently served as a “spare wheel”.

A polar bear examines a submarine, 1967.

The bearish way of life was disturbed.

Reporters observe a nuclear explosion during Operation Plumbob, 1957.

This series of tests was the largest, longest and most discussed that took place in the United States. A total of 29 bombs were detonated.

A Dutch woman with her hair cut and smeared with tar, who had connections with the Germans from the occupation units in Amsterdam, 1945.

Behind the woman are the same Dutch who capitulated in 5 days. Well, of course it’s easier to fight a crowd with one woman.

Capacity of the "beetle", 1964.

Elizabeth Lee Miller takes a bath in Hitler's apartment in Munich, 1945.

This photograph has a very interesting history. American photographer Lee Miller was photographed in Hitler's bathroom on the very day he committed suicide.

Shortly before the photo shoot, the photojournalist visited the Dachau camps and other hot spots.

When Lee Miller and her colleague arrived in Berlin, they asked a local old man to show the city.

Walking through the destroyed city, they came across the house where the Fuhrer lived and decided to arrange such an unusual photo session.

The essence of such a photo was to show that Hitler is no more.

Before getting into Hitler's bathroom, Lee Miller didn't wash for 3 weeks. In the photo, she is literally washing away the horrors of war.

Photographer Jay Maisel among his Kodachrome slides, 1982.

And I thought it was just me with a mess with my photo archive.

Yard solarium. GDR, 1982.

In the special effects and combined filming pavilion, preparations are underway for the plane crash episode in the film "Touched by the Jellyfish", USA, 1978.

Before we learned how to use effects on a computer, this was a very common practice. Our Soviet film "Crew" filmed using similar methods.

Hop pickers from Kent. Photo from 1928.

However, the men's sense of balance is excellent.

Courier of one of the restaurants in Tokyo, 1940s.

Everything requires skill, hardening and training. The Japanese were among the first to start delivering food to their homes.

A method of combating vagrancy in the USA at the beginning of the twentieth century.

The tramp was caught and put in a chair, then left on the street for 10 hours or more. He especially suffered from children and weather conditions. After this, the tramps preferred to leave the city.

Toy factory workers doing makeup on dolls, 1950.

City and country unknown. But I have heard that in the 70s deaf and mute workers often worked in such industries.

Competition for the most beautiful legs. New York State, 1951.

Contestants wear pillowcases over their heads so the judges can only judge by their feet.

A train passes over a bridge over Dale Creek. USA, 1885.

This is what the railroad bridge across Dale Creek (USA, Wyoming) looked like in 1885. By this time, the wooden supports had already been replaced with metal ones, but the structure was still swaying in the strong wind. Trains slowed down to 6 km/h, crossing the stream at an altitude of 38 m. The bridge stood until 1901, and then was dismantled.

A man and a woman on roller skates and a hand sail for fast movement. Berlin, Germany, 1923.

Previously, one person rode two scooters, but now it’s the other way around, two people ride one.

Chinese punishment system, flogging a lawbreaker, 1900.

It would be great if servants of the law were now so publicly punished for corruption.

Homemade sports cars. Moscow, 1961.

Homemade German mobile home, 1922.

Heavy tank IS-2 from the 6th Guards Tank Army, destroyed in the city of Hrusky in Czechoslovakia, 1945.

The tank was immobilized, but apparently continued to fight. The turret was deployed, which means they were still shooting after the tracks were lost.

Junkman. Paris, 1899.

One foreign source wrote that this is not just a homeless person, but a junk dealer. They collected garbage and old things and then sold them.

Winter cocktails at the Palace Hotel, St. Moritz, 1947.

Roland, a 1.8-ton elephant seal, takes a bath in the Berlin Zoo, 1930.

He was one of the symbols of the Berlin Zoo. The elephant seal was distinguished by its disposition, wisdom and extraordinary appearance.

A French woman resting in a park, 1963.

You can name any year from 1963 to today and this girl’s style will look relevant and stylish.

A glass of milk for the cat. Amsterdam, 1953.

Beer barrels on the grounds of the Guinness brewery in Dublin, 1910.

Beer "Guinness" — the most famous and consumed Irish beer, which has become a legend and the most popular brand in Ireland. The first brewery was opened back in 1759 and after all these years it still maintains its quality mark.

Greece, 1965.

Perhaps this is part of their mentality. Their wives carry everything: the horse, the hut, the children, and the Greek across the river.

Hamburg dudes, 1929.

The ship's carpenters are dressed like roosters (in the best sense). This is where the expression “Rooster of Hamburg” comes from.

Paris, train crossing the Seine on the Auteuil Viaduct, 1900.

The Viaduct d'Auteuil, also called the Dawn Bridge, allowed trains of the Small Ring Railway to cross the Seine River, providing traffic along the Boulevards des Marshals. It was built in 1865 and demolished in 1959.

"Flock". Place de la Concorde, Paris, 1969.

Children cross the river on their way to school. Modena, Italy, 1959.

- Giuseppe!

- Giuseppe won't come, he didn't fasten the carbine well.

- Don’t give him absenteeism, maybe he’ll come up again.

Most likely, the schoolchildren crossed this way during the river flood.

Disposal of city waste by dumping it into the river. Paris. Seine, 1910.

At that time there was no plastic or non-recyclable waste, but I think it caused inconvenience to those who lived down the river.

Children in a puppet theater. Paris, 1963.

The three children are dressed almost identically and strangely - warm hats and shorts underneath. From an orphanage, as if.
