Backgammon is one of the oldest board games in the world, with a history spanning over 5,000 years. The oldest game board was discovered by archaeologists in Ancient Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq, the region of Sumer) and dates back to approximately 3000 BC. Around the same time, similar games developed in Ancient Egypt (the game of Senet) and Iran. Yes, chess is rightfully called the "game of kings," but backgammon is in no way inferior.
