Crash of a British Air Force training plane caught on video
The plane crashed shortly after takeoff; the pilots managed to eject.
A Royal Air Force Hawk T2 training aircraft crashed near the RAF Valley airbase on the Isle of Anglesey in Wales. Two crew members managed to eject. According to authorities, they sustained minor injuries.
Local residents noted that they spotted problems immediately after takeoff, so they took out their phones and began filming the aircraft.
"We were watching the takeoff, we were on the beach and have seen hundreds of takeoffs. I told my wife that it was in trouble because I saw flames on takeoff," one local resident told local media.
The Air Force has not named any potential causes of the crash. Emergency services are currently working at the scene.
"An incident occurred near the Isle of Anglesey involving an RAF T2 Hawk aircraft departing RAF Valley. An investigation is underway, and we will not be providing further comment at this time," the British Air Force stated.
Media outlets note that the RAF Valley airbase is used to train fighter pilots. As for the Hawk T2, it is a two-seat jet trainer designed for advanced pilot training before transitioning to combat fighters.
