Haval Jolion and Kia Sonet failed crash tests (3 photos + 1 video)
Global NCAP has published the results of crash tests of the popular 2026 Haval Jolion and Kia Sonet crossovers, conducted as part of its program to assess vehicle safety for the African market. Both models showed unsatisfactory passive safety scores in tests of their base versions. 
Based on the tests, the Kia Sonet received one star for adult occupant protection, while the Haval Jolion earned two. Child occupant safety in both crossovers was rated equally at three stars.
In the frontal impact, the Jolion provided adequate protection for the dummies' heads, necks, and chests, but knee protection was deemed marginal. In the side impact, the car demonstrated good body strength. 
The Kia Sonet's body structure and footwell were deemed unstable and unable to withstand high loads in the frontal impact. The side impact revealed weak chest protection, lowering the model's overall score.
The Haval Jolion's final scores are as follows: 30.33 points out of 34 for adult occupant safety, and 31.52 points out of 49 for child occupant safety. The Kia Sonet scored 21.29 points for the former and 28.57 for the latter.
Global NCAP management criticized the practice of global automakers continuing to supply cars to the African market with lower safety standards than their European counterparts. The organization's representatives emphasized the need to make side curtain head protection mandatory standard equipment in all regions where the brands operate.
In 2022, the Haval Jolion was tested by Australian ANCAP, earning the maximum five stars. Front passenger protection was rated at 90%, while child occupant protection was rated at 84%.
