Volkswagen T-Cross and Dongfeng Box failed Euro NCAP crash tests (2 photos)
The Chinese Dongfeng Box electric liftback was among the latest group of models to undergo Euro NCAP crash testing. Several welds on the body separated after a frontal impact. The model was given an overall three-star rating, which is considered a failure. 
The car performed poorly in a simulated partial-overlap frontal impact. Several welds failed and separated. This didn't lead to catastrophic consequences in the Euro NCAP test, but in more serious collisions, the body may not perform as expected.
The experts also had other complaints about the car. The driver's airbag was underinflated, causing the dummy's head to contact the steering wheel, and the sensors recorded increased loads. After the impact, the emergency door release system failed to activate. The driver and right-hand passenger's legs could be damaged by elements of the dashboard.
Despite this array of shortcomings, the Dongfeng Box was rated. It received a low three stars out of five. Adult occupant protection received a 69% rating, child occupant protection received an 81% rating, and pedestrian protection received a 67% rating. The assistance systems earned a modest 77% rating. 
Another "C" student was the European Volkswagen T-Cross crossover. The budget car provided good occupant protection (74% for adults and 81% for children), but pedestrian safety was rated only 60%, and its safety features scored 57%.
The Audi Q3, Volkswagen Golf, Skoda Octavia, Ebro S700 and S800, Hongqi EHS5, Cadillac Optiq, Mazda 6e, BMW X3, IM5, MG S6 EV, Volkswagen ID.4, Cupra Born, DS8, Chery Tiggo 7, and Tiggo 8 earned five stars in crash tests. A year ago, three Chinese cars received the highest score according to the Euro NCAP methodology: the Deepal S07, Maxus eTerron 9, and Leapmotor C10. The MG ZS hybrid earned four stars.
