Mexicans mistook lightning in the mountains for aliens

Residents of the Mexican state of Chiapas have captured numerous unusual lightning strikes in the mountains.

The videos show lightning in clouds and fog on forested mountain slopes. Locals compared the sighting to a strobe light at a concert or party.

The strange sight has sparked numerous speculations online about the origin of the lightning. Some users wrote that such lightning supposedly appears before a strong earthquake. Others immediately claimed that the unusual discharges are connected to alien activity. "UFOs for something big in Chiapas? Lights moving between the trees like they're sentient. These aren't ordinary lightning strikes," wrote one local.
