An electric car for NASCAR racing was presented (3 photos + 1 video)
The NASCAR racing series, considered a cult series in the United States, has introduced an electric car for oval racing. It is built on a standard NASCAR track chassis, but features original bodywork and a powerful battery powertrain. At the same time, the series administration has already stated that they do not plan to switch the competition to electric traction.
The prototype was built with the participation of power electronics manufacturer ABB, as well as Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota. Officially, it is considered a crossover, the body of which is made of plant-based composite materials.
The prototype's power plant consists of three engines of the same model that were used on the record-breaking Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck, which won the recent Pikes Peak. They develop 1360 horsepower and work with a 78-kilowatt battery. Other technical characteristics are not mentioned.
Representatives of the series said that they will adhere to the historically significant role of the internal combustion engine in racing, but at the same time welcome the desire for decarbonization - this is what the prototype should emphasize. NASCAR plans to steadily increase the number of charging stations for its spectators' electric cars, switch to using electricity from renewable sources and overall minimize its carbon footprint - down to net-zero in its core operations by 2035.
