It was a unique, modified version of the aircraft, and the cause of the crash is still unknown.
A prototype F-35 fighter jet crashed in New Mexico. The plane crash occurred last Tuesday near Albuquerque International Airport. At about 13:00 local time, the pilot refueled in Kirtland to then head to the air force base in Southern California, but almost immediately after takeoff the ship crashed near the airfield.
The pilot was able to eject and is now hospitalized at the University of New Mexico with serious injuries.
As for the crashed plane, it “was an experimental model of the F-35 fighter, which was transferred by Lockheed Martin,” US media reported. The crash will be investigated.
The cost of the crashed fighter is estimated at approximately $135 million. Judging by the photo of the wreckage of the plane left after extinguishing the fire, the ship cannot be restored.
