Toyota Sued in the US for Price Increase Due to Duties (1 photo)
According to the plaintiffs, the company must distribute approximately $9 billion among its customers.
A class action lawsuit against Toyota's U.S. subsidiary has been filed in a California district court. The plaintiffs are seeking financial compensation for price increases Toyota was forced to incur due to the Trump administration's tariff policies. They claim that Toyota passed the costs of the increased tariffs on to its customers.
The Trump administration recently imposed increased tariffs on a number of imported goods, including automobiles. The lawsuit alleges that Toyota has paid a total of over $9 billion, raising these funds by raising vehicle prices in the U.S. market.
Early this spring, the imposition of these duties was ruled illegal by a court, and a compensation program totaling approximately $166 billion was launched in April. The plaintiffs believe that once Toyota receives its share of the proceeds, it should share it with those customers who essentially paid these duties out of pocket. According to the lawsuit, this includes everyone who purchased or leased any Toyota products between February 1, 2025, and February 24, 2026.
