A month after photos of the compact electric ID. Polo leaked online, the German brand officially revealed details about the new model, including some equipment features and pricing in its home market of Germany.
The electric Polo adopts the styling of the 2023 ID.2all concept, making it the first production car to feature the brand's new Pure Positive design language. The 4-meter hatchback is slightly shorter in size than the current Polo with an internal combustion engine, but has a wheelbase of almost 5 cm (2.6 meters).
The model is based on the MEB+ platform. It is powered by a front-mounted electric motor, available in three power levels: 116, 135, and 211 hp. The lineup will later be expanded with the 226 hp ID. Polo GTI hot hatch. More affordable models will receive a 37-kilowatt battery, providing up to 329 km of range on a single charge. Top-of-the-line variants, including the future GTI, will receive a 52-kilowatt battery, which should provide a range of up to 454 km.
The interior of the new model has long been no secret. With its design, Volkswagen confirmed its return to push-button interfaces. For the ID. Polo, the developers ditched the touchpads on the steering wheel and added climate control buttons to the dashboard, as well as a volume control knob on the center console. And for fans of classic VWs, an optional retro-style graphic skin is available for the 10-inch digital instrument cluster and 13-inch infotainment system screen.
The equipment list is known to include matrix headlights, a Harman Kardon audio system with a subwoofer and 10 speakers, and a massage function for the front seats.
Volkswagen plans to announce the exact market launch date for the ID. Polo later, but the starting price in the brand's home market is already known. The base hatchback will cost €24,995.
