An American Traded a Rare Audi R8 for a Collection of Pokémon Cards (3 photos)
US resident Jeff Pritchett made an unusual deal: he traded his Audi R8 for Pokémon cards. For the rare German sports car, he received two sets of cards valued at $75,000 and $65,000 (a total of $140,000).
Pritchett himself posted about the deal on a banned social media account. All the "cardboard" he received was from the Sun & Moon era, named after the role-playing video games of the same name. These cards were produced from 2017 to 2019 and are no longer in production, so prices are gradually rising among the fan community.
In the comments to the post, the man shared details about his former Audi R8. It's a rare 2012 R8 V10 Exclusive Selection Edition model, of which only 30 were produced. The coupe is equipped with a 5.2-liter V10 engine producing 525 hp, a 6-speed manual transmission, and quattro all-wheel drive.
The Exclusive Selection Edition features an Ibis White exterior and Brilliant Black trim elements, including side skirts, exterior mirrors, and a license plate surround. The package also includes 19-inch two-tone wheels and carbon fiber interior trim.
Pritchett did not specify the car's condition or mileage, making it difficult to estimate its market value. Recently, several sales of 2012 Audi R8 V10s with 40,000 to 80,000 kilometers on the clock have been registered on the Cars&Bids portal, with prices ranging from $120,000 to $140,000.
Commentators praised the deal. One noted that Jeff traded a liability, which is only likely to depreciate, for a volatile asset that is likely to appreciate.
