A giant sunfish blocked a canal: the carcass weighing over a ton had to be removed by firefighters (3 photos + 1 video)
A huge ocean sunfish was discovered in a canal in the Venetian Lagoon, its carcass blocking traffic and creating an obstacle to navigation. A water taxi driver noticed the incident, prompting emergency services to be called to the scene.
Due to its large weight—over a ton—firefighters and specialized floating equipment were called in to lift and transport the carcass. The clearing operation took several hours and required careful work in the narrow waters.
According to experts, the appearance of such large fish in the canals is considered a rare occurrence. The carcass has been sent for examination to determine the cause of death.
