Manufacturer Koenigsegg supercars are preparing for a world speed record (2 photos)
Swedish company Koenigsegg, known for its high-performance supercars, may soon launch a successful attack on the world land speed record for road cars. This conclusion was drawn by CarBuzz based on a patent application it discovered filed with the European Patent Office. Koenigsegg reserves the rights to the name of the new tires.
Koenigsegg has patented the Ghost Grip trademark: the application was filed in the class relating to tires and wheels. The company has previously made several attempts to set a world record, but company representatives noted that full-scale races are hampered by both the lack of suitable tracks and the limitations of modern tires, which may not be able to handle the planned speeds.
The publication recalls a relatively recent statement by Koenigsegg CEO Christian von Koenigsegg: he said the supercar manufacturer is working closely with Michelin on the development of high-performance tires and is already in the testing phase of prototype models. Therefore, if the joint Koenigsegg and Michelin project has already reached the patenting stage for the new tire's name, then the final races for the record title are only a short distance away. Further indirect evidence is the Swedes' active use of both the word "Ghost" in their own branding and its image.
Koenigsegg's weapon in the battle for the record is expected to be the Jesko Absolut hypercar, whose estimated top speed exceeds 530 km/h. ![]()
