This new species has been named Spinosaurus mirabilis, or "amazing spiny lizard." This predator lived during the Cretaceous period, when dense forests and rivers spread across what is now the Sahara Desert. Scientists are confident that this is not a mythical monster, but a true representative of the spinosaur family—sail-backed dinosaurs with a semi-aquatic lifestyle.
