A children's Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa sold for a record price (7 photos)
A replica Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa sold for €204,000 at RM Sotheby's. This is a new record price for children's cars—scaled-down versions of the iconic supercars. Only 299 of these "toys" were ever made.
The car is an official Ferrari product, created under license by Hedley Studios (formerly known as The Little Car Company). Only 299 were built. The body was created based on archival drawings of the original car, preserved at Ferrari Classiche.
The model is equipped with a 16 hp electric motor. It reaches a top speed of 80 km/h. This miniature Ferrari can be configured to one of four driving modes: "Beginner," "Comfort," "Sport," or "Race." The example up for auction was ordered new by its sole owner through an authorized Ferrari dealer near Toulouse. A copy of the original sales receipt is included with the car.
The 250 Testa Rossa became one of Ferrari's most successful racing cars, winning numerous famous races. Among them are four overall victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans from 1958 to 1962. The Testa Rossa J up for auction is a quarter smaller in size.
