One of the rarest Ferrari models is planned to be sold for a record amount (37 photos)
A 1958 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa will be auctioned at RM Sotheby's at the end of February. This is one of the rarest, most beautiful and highly valued models of the brand by collectors. In addition, it has a real history of almost two dozen races. Experts expect a record deal value.
The Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa was produced from 1957 to 1961. A total of 33 cars were made. And only 19 of these cars with bodywork by Sergio Scaglietti were built. The example offered for sale participated in 19 official races during its life and won four of them.
The presented example underwent a complete restoration in 2013, after which it was in the private collection of a Ferrari connoisseur in the USA. The car is especially valuable because the numbers of its engine and gearbox correspond to the original ones: the units have not changed since leaving the factory.
The car is equipped with a three-liter naturally aspirated V12. Its power reaches 300 hp. at 7000 rpm. In the first two years, the model used a 4-speed manual transmission, which was replaced with a 5-speed in 1959.
Ten years ago, a similar car was sold for $40 million. And in November last year, a Ferrari 250 GTO, released in 1962, sold for 51.7 million. This is a record among all cars put up for public auction. It is possible that Testa Rossa will be able to beat him.
