Auction put up a unique Ferrari Daytona 1967 (26 photos)
Auction RM Sotheby's is closed auction for an unusual lot - 1967 Ferrari coupe, first factory prototype 365 GTB/4 Daytona. This a car from the exposition of the Ferrari factory museum, which in itself makes car interesting for collectors.
Officially, the year of birth of the Ferrari 365 GTB/ 4 is 1968. However, this car was built at the beginning of 1967 to work out a number of constructive solutions. Externally, the coupe is very different from that sports car that got on the conveyor: it has an original, more conservative design of the front with traditional round optics, different silhouette and feed is also unique. The car is equipped with a 4.4-liter V12. Serial 365 GTB/4 equipped with an engine of the same configuration and a similar volume, however, in a more advanced modification with the factory designation Tipo 251, then as on the copy for sale, Tipo 243 is used, which auctioneers call "completely unique", without going into details.
At the end of the test cycle, Ferrari sent the prototype to warehouse or under pressure, but for free sale. It is considered that the first the owner of the coupe was Count Vincenzo Balestrieri, world champion in racing on motor boats. After him, the car was owned by several more fans. Italian brand, and the current owner bought it about 20 years ago and 2010s funded a complete restoration. Between 2015 and 2016 the prototype was on display at the Ferrari factory museum.
Since the auction is closed, the price of the unique the coupe, most likely, will not be revealed. However, it can be calculated millions of dollars. Last summer, the same auction house exhibited up for auction is another 365 GTB/4 prototype, but with a Scaglietti bodywork. In total, six experimental machines were built, and this one was far from first. Nevertheless, the car went under the hammer for $2,315,000.
