Current instead of polish: iPolish launches the era of digital manicures (3 photos + 2 videos)
The beauty industry has long resisted digitalization, limiting itself to smart mirrors and social media filters, but the new year has dealt a decisive blow to traditional nail salons.
At CES in Las Vegas, iPolish unveiled a product that has nail technicians nervously counting their remaining bottles of polish. iPolish Cyber Nails are not just false nails, but high-tech devices that use electrochemistry and electronic ink to instantly transform your look.
The user simply selects one of 400 shades in the mobile app and places their fingertip in a special adapter resembling a futuristic clip. A short electrical discharge triggers a chemical reaction within the multilayered structure of the nail, causing the molecules to rearrange and change color within five seconds. The process is completely painless, although the very concept of "flash-flashing" your own manicure with electricity adds a touch of cyberpunk aesthetic to the look.
From a pragmatic standpoint, iPolish seems like the ideal solution for those who suffer from the agony of choice at the nail salon. For $95, the buyer receives a set of twenty-four reusable nails in the popular almond and ballerina shapes.
Considering that the average bill at a good salon approaches infinity, the gadget pays for itself in just a couple of months. The only serious limitation is the prohibition on using a nail file: each nail contains delicate electronics, so attempting to adjust the length yourself will result in the sudden death of the device. And nails grow, and they don't care about all the devices.
However, behind this technological triumph lies a humorous social subtext. We've officially entered an era where the phrase "my nails are worn out" ceases to be a metaphor and becomes an everyday reality. While there's no definitive sales date yet, traditional nail artists still have time for their beloved classics.
