A British family carried a dead woman on an EasyJet flight from Spain to London's Gatwick Airport. According to witnesses, five relatives told staff that the 89-year-old grandmother was unwell and had fallen asleep.

The plane was stopped before takeoff when flight attendants learned of the passenger's death. The flight was delayed for 12 hours.

EasyJet representatives noted that the woman had medical clearance to fly and was alive before boarding.

Comments from passengers have appeared on social media. One, Petra Boddington, said: "I saw a woman unconscious in a wheelchair. EasyJet, when did you start allowing dead people on board? The staff actually did allow someone who looked completely dead on board. And then, strangely enough, this woman died right before takeoff."

She noted that the airline does not allow intoxicated passengers on flights, but no one seemed to mind the dead person.

Petra overheard the family telling the ground staff that their relative was "fine."

Tracey-Ann Kitching was also dissatisfied with EasyJet's handling of the situation.

In her post, she wrote: "You're a real treat, EasyJet! Why did you let a dead person on our flight?"

She claimed the woman's head was held and "rolled onto the plane."

Tracey expressed her condolences to the family and thanked the airline staff for reassuring concerned passengers.

The flight was scheduled to depart Malaga on Friday at 11:15 AM and land at 2:10 PM. However, passengers were forced to wait almost 12 hours, as the flight did not depart until 10:47 PM local time and landed at Gatwick Airport at midnight.

A Civil Guard spokesperson confirmed that officers were called on board because of an elderly British woman.

"She was pronounced dead on board the plane, which was scheduled to depart from Malaga to London. She was cleared to fly and had the appropriate certificate. She was accompanied by medical personnel during the journey."

EasyJet confirmed the police's statement and added: "We extend our condolences to the family and friends of our customer, who has sadly passed away. We stand ready to provide support and assistance during this difficult time. EasyJet always prioritizes the safety and comfort of our passengers and crew. We ask for your understanding during this situation."
