Toyota unveiled a new flagship supercar, developed by its Gazoo Racing division. It received the GR GT designation and will retain this designation even in its racing version, which was revealed simultaneously and will be called the GR GT3. The supercar is promised a hybrid powertrain based on a 4.0-liter V8 and an entirely new platform, but production cars won't arrive until 2027.

The dry-sump gasoline engine is completely new, as is the eight-speed automatic transmission mated to it. The new car is rear-wheel drive. Together with the electric motor integrated into the automatic, the system produces over 650 hp. and 850 Nm, but the performance figures are still approximate. The estimated top speed is in excess of 320 km/h.

The GR GT's relatively modest weight, which will not exceed 1,750 kilograms, should have a beneficial effect on performance. This was achieved, among other things, through Toyota's innovative body structure (made entirely of aluminum) and the extensive use of carbon fiber in the body panels. A 45:55 weight distribution is achieved by placing the internal combustion engine in the front of the supercar and the transmission on the rear axle. The Toyota GR GT is also known to feature double-wishbone suspension and carbon-ceramic brakes with 20-inch wheels.

Among other advantages of the new car, Toyota mentions an extremely low center of gravity and advanced aerodynamics, but is not yet going into detail.

The GR GT is billed as a racing car adapted for road use and suitable for everyday use. The road-going version and the GT3 track car share the same chassis design and 2,725-millimeter wheelbase, but differ slightly in length. Other highlights of the GT3 include a more aggressive aerodynamic package with fender flares and a massive rear wing. Furthermore, the racing car will likely lack an electric powertrain.

Overall, the new model is described as a driver-focused supercar and the ideological successor to the famous 2000GT. Toyota has already begun road testing the GR GT, but both versions are currently considered prototypes. The company plans to complete development and launch production by 2027.
