A girl lives in an abandoned school and says what terrifies her most there
British TikTok user and singer Zayla Ren transformed an empty school classroom into a personal living space. Her new home has sparked a flurry of discussions about home hunting in Britain.
Zayla creatively divided the space into several functional areas—a bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom, and even a makeshift dressing room. She shared details of her daily life on TikTok.
The residence itself was made possible by a system known as "property guardianship." Under this scheme, people can live in empty buildings—from former schools and offices to factories—for reduced rent.
In exchange, residents act as "guardians" of the building, maintaining it and preventing illegal occupancy or vandalism. However, while Zayla appreciates the accessibility and space of her new home, she admits there are some drawbacks.
"The energy at night is completely different... it's the creepiest feeling in the world. It's like being in a horror movie," she told Metro.
She also admitted that the huge room gets very cold in winter. In another video, she complained that "the windows are incredibly hard to open" because she can't reach them, and the fluorescent lighting is "terrible."
However, she also shared the perks of living in the abandoned school, particularly the excellent acoustics, which, as a singer, she described as "pure bliss."
