A video of a Chinese girl's farewell to her broken device has gone viral online. A father captured his six-year-old daughter crying as she said goodbye to her unusual friend.
In the video from Hunan Province, six-year-old Shisan cries while a small, spherical robot named Xiao Zhi teaches her her last word—"memory"—before turning itself off.
The girl's father said he bought the robot for 169 yuan as an educational toy. Xiao Zhi helped Shisan learn English and the basics of astronomy and eventually became her "friend." After the girl accidentally dropped the device and broke the power button, the father filmed their farewell.
In the footage, the robot says, "I will cherish our happy moments in my memory," and consoles the girl: "In the vast universe, there is one star—that's me, I will look up to you." The video garnered over 3.8 million likes, with users writing that "the robot taught the child his first lesson in separation."
Later, the father reported that he sent Xiao Zhi's car to be repaired and took his daughter for a break. He admitted he was worried about her becoming too dependent on cars, but decided to return her "best friend." He is now considering the best way to reunite his daughter with her "friend" after the repairs.
