Toyota GR010 Hybrid Update
Toyota has released official teasers for the updated version of the GR010 Hybrid hybrid hypercar. The new model will feature a revised aerodynamic package that gives it a more aggressive look. The car is scheduled to be tested on the Paul Ricard circuit in France next week.
Purpose of the update
Toyota is seeking to regain its leading position in the world of endurance racing, in particular at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans. The team dominated the series from 2018 to 2022, winning five consecutive titles, but Ferrari won in 2023, 2024 and 2025. The GR010 Hybrid update is expected to be a response to this trend.
External changes
The teaser shows a number of visual updates. In particular, the front has horizontally arranged LED headlights reminiscent of Toyota's road-going models, as well as integrated air vents. The rear has a full-width LED strip similar to that found on the GR Yaris and a redesigned wing.
Technical features
The GR010 Hybrid debuted in 2021 as the successor to the TS050 Hybrid. According to the WEC regulations for hypercars, the car has a limited number of possibilities for modifications during the homologation cycle. Some of these possibilities have already been used in 2023, and the rest are likely to be used for the current update. Questions regarding changes to the hybrid powertrain, which includes a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine and a front electric motor, remain open. The total system output is limited to 671 hp.
We are working on presenting the evolution next year. In early October, we will test the car for the first time with the new aerodynamic package. As a team, we are working together and continuing our preparations with the firm intention of winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans next year. To be honest, we were considering this development last year and even thought about launching it this year, but partly due to the change in the location of the homologation wind tunnel, we decided to postpone it for a year.
Testing plans
Testing of the updated hypercar is scheduled for October 8 and 9 at the Paul Ricard circuit in France. This will allow not only to check the technical characteristics, but also to demonstrate the design of the car in action.
Competition in the WEC
In the World Endurance Championship, the Toyota GR will compete against rivals such as Ferrari, Aston Martin and Peugeot in the LMH category, as well as BMW, Porsche, Cadillac and Alpine in the LMDh. Starting in 2027, teams from Genesis, McLaren and Ford will also join the race.
The update of the Toyota GR010 Hybrid comes amid increasing competition in the world of endurance racing. The growing number of participants and technological progress make each new development key to success. For Toyota, returning to the top is not only a matter of prestige, but also an opportunity to demonstrate the effectiveness of its innovations in real-world competition conditions. The success of this initiative could influence future technologies that will appear in the brand's road models.
