Free housing, utilities, and food: the ideal job is on offer on a Greek island (2 photos + 1 video)
For those who dream of going to work as if it were a holiday, a unique opportunity has emerged: sign up to volunteer on a Greek island. However, one special condition must be met.
Representatives of the Holiday Pirates company have announced a call for applications for their dream job: they are seeking volunteers for 2026 to live on the island of Syros, in the Mediterranean Sea. The company provides free housing, nutritious meals, and covers utilities.
You must work 5 days a week, 5 hours a day. Responsibilities include caring for cats.
"You'll be provided with free housing, breakfast, and no utility bills. The catch? You'll need to volunteer at the cat shelter for approximately five hours a day, five days a week," the Holiday Pirates staff posted on TikTok.
The SyrosCats shelter's website details the requirements for applicants: "We're looking for healthy, mature, and independent volunteers—singles or couples—for a minimum of one month to help care for cats. A veterinary background or experience working with feral cats is a plus, but we welcome anyone who loves cats, is willing to get their hands dirty, lend a shoulder, and be on time."
Candidates must be over 25 years old, self-sufficient, and willing to work with a variety of volunteers from around the world.
"You'll live in a house with two or three other people, each with their own bedroom, but the kitchen, bathroom, and living room will be shared," the employers say.
Dream Job
Volunteers start work at 8 a.m., feeding, cuddling, and playing with the cats. An hour before sunset, they'll clean out litter boxes, distribute medication, and provide the cats with everything they need for the night.
A TikTok video listing the job has garnered over a million views and received numerous enthusiastic responses. "I'm ready. Who should I talk to?" one user commented. Another, a retiree, wrote, "Cats are my passion... Pick me!" A third called it a "fantastic opportunity," and a fourth admitted, "This really got me thinking. I might change my life."
