A battery-powered Mercedes-Benz GLC with a meter-long display and a range of up to 713 kilometers (248 miles) has been unveiled (20 photos)

The market launch of the new model is scheduled for the first half of 2026.

At the Munich Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the latest addition to its electric lineup. The GLC with EQ Technology crossover will replace the discontinued EQC and serve as a battery-powered alternative to the fuel-powered model of the same model. The new model debuted a number of the company's innovations in both design and technology, although the new GLC, in its flagship version, offers a range of 713 kilometers, inferior to the recently debuted BMW iX3.

The Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology debuted in the 400 4Matic trim level with a dual-motor powertrain producing 489 hp (20 hp more than the BMW iX3). It's called the flagship, but it's also promised that the family will expand to five variants in the future. A two-stage gearbox has been developed for the rear electric motor, while the front motor can be switched off during steady driving to save energy.

The electric vehicle is equipped with a 94-kilowatt lithium-ion battery, which gives the crossover a range of 713 kilometers (443 miles) without recharging. The new model's power electronics can accept charging currents of up to 330 kW. This will allow, among other things, the vehicle to accumulate energy for a range of 300 kilometers in just 10 minutes.

The power electronics have five presets for different driving modes. In addition to Economy, Comfort, Sport, and Individual, there's also a Terrain preset designed for unpaved roads. Driving off-road should also be made easier by a transparent hood function and a special headlight mode. Furthermore, the vehicle can choose between four efficiency levels for the recuperation system.

A number of suspension innovations are optionally available for the crossover. The air springs with adjustable ride height, borrowed from the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, are supplemented by adaptive dampers. The on-board electronics can adjust their settings predictively, receiving data from Mercedes-Benz vehicles ahead via the Car-to-X channel: vehicles can exchange information on road conditions via cloud storage.

Furthermore, data from the navigation system is also taken into account. The company states that other vehicles, for example, maintain a minimum ground clearance based solely on driving speed, and if the car gets stuck in a traffic jam, the ground clearance is automatically increased, even though the road conditions haven't changed. By receiving data from Google Maps, the new electric car can maintain a constant body position in all highway driving conditions.

Finally, the Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology features rear-wheel steering, which can turn up to 4.5 degrees in the opposite direction to the front wheels and up to 2.5 degrees in the same direction. This, among other things, reduces the turning circle by 90 centimeters, to 11.2 meters.

The Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology's external dimensions are comparable to the gasoline-powered model, but the electric car's wheelbase is 84 millimeters longer: the wheelbase has been increased to 2,972 millimeters. This allows for a more spacious interior. Additional millimeters have been added for both legroom and headroom, and the company specifically notes that a panoramic roof will be standard on the new model (optional with variable transparency and voice control). Trunk capacity ranges from 570 to 1,740 liters, with a 128-liter storage box under the front hood.

The electric car differs from the GLC with an internal combustion engine, for example, by a new panel in place of the radiator grille. It's described as a modern take on an iconic design element: a massive frame combined with three horizontal slats. Backlit frames and logos are optional, and the slats will be equipped with 942 LEDs with animated patterns (although the backlighting elements will not be available in all markets). Both the headlights and taillights feature three-pointed star inserts.

The interior will be dominated by the latest seamless Hyperscreen display, measuring 99.3 centimeters (39.1 inches). It functions as the instrument cluster, central display, and passenger display, and features zonal dimming. Several background themes are available, which automatically coordinate with the interior lighting and controls.

In the base GLC version, the three-screen setup familiar from other models will be available: a 10.3-inch instrument cluster and two 14-inch touchscreens. On the most affordable electric car, the passenger display serves as a decorative element, capable of displaying only one of 12 preset images. Burmester audio systems provide 4D sound with Dolby Atmos.

Media services are powered by the new MBUX system, whose software utilizes AI elements from both Microsoft and Google. This includes access to a voice assistant with branching dialogue capabilities and the ability to remember previous messages.

New seats with increased adjustment ranges have been developed for the electric car, and will be available in two trim levels: comfort and sport. A new steering wheel and a wide range of interior trim options are also mentioned. Base models will be offered with materials made from recycled materials and certified by the vegan community, while the most expensive versions will traditionally be available with genuine leather.

Prices for the Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology have not yet been announced. Sales of the electric car in Europe will begin in the first half of next year, followed by a number of other markets, including North America and the Middle East.
